One Hundred Years of Solitude Summary & Review:

The novel follows the story of a rich Buendia family in a fictional town of Macondo in Colombia. It is the story of a family and its seven generations which started from the patriarchs Jose Buendia and Ursula Iguaran. They had to leave their origin city because Mr. Beundia had lost a cock fight after being accused of impotency by one of his cousins.

In the main narrative of the story, it is mostly about Jose Buendia who thinks about life from the perspective of Macondo. He thinks that since the town is surrounded by water, this the place where the world starts. The town of Macondo becomes a legend since many generations of the family are stuck here and many events happen to them.

The novel is well-appreciated due to the complex but very intriguing storyline and characters which are discussed in depth and even protagonists have their own histories. What a certain character does in the story is a result of many events which have happened to the character in the town of Macondo.

One Hundred Years of Solitude is also appreciated for its metaphors and symbolism which are consistent throughout the narrative of the novel. Being such a classic, the book has a rating of 4.1 out of 5 on the Good Reads and the people in reading circles still talk about it.
